Google Ads agencies charge in one of four ways: a flat monthly fee, a percentage of ad spend, a performance-based fee, or a mix. What you pay matters less than what you get for it, so compare cost per customer and how clearly results are defined, not just the fee.
Fees vs. ad spend
Two costs get mixed up. Agency fees pay for strategy, management and measurement. Ad spend is what you pay Google for clicks; it is your budget, not an agency cost.
The four pricing models
| Model | How it works | Advantage | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat fee | A fixed monthly amount | Predictable | You pay the same whether or not results improve |
| % of ad spend | A share of what you spend on Google | Scales with the account | Incentive to raise spend, not efficiency |
| Performance-based | Paid on leads or sales achieved | Aligned with your goal | You must define and measure a "result" precisely |
| Mixed | A base fee plus a performance component | Balances commitment and incentive | Must be agreed clearly in writing |
How we work at Torre Media
We use a mixed model, defined for each client after we understand their situation. The fee commits the person who runs your account. The performance component aligns incentives. For companies at the right revenue level and stage, if the agreed results are not reached we keep working at no charge until they are; that depends on a shared commitment and is agreed in writing. For companies in a critical situation that cannot take on a fee, we work on a percentage of results only.
What affects the price
- The amount of ad spend and the number of channels.
- The scope: management only, or also landing pages, tracking and CRM integration.
- How competitive your industry is.
- How much time the account manager dedicates to your account.
How to avoid overpaying
- Ask which metric you pay for, and how it is measured.
- Confirm who runs your account and how much time they give it.
- Make sure the ad accounts and data are yours.
- Clarify the contract length and what happens if results are not reached.
- Get in writing what is delivered every month.
